It is estimated that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will suffer from sexual dysfunction as a result of diabetes. Sexual dysfunction includes both mental and physical changes. Frequently, sexual dysfunction is not diagnosed or treated.
Diabetes has an effect on the body’s ability to use sugar properly. High blood sugars; caused by uncontrolled diabetes, may lead to harmful effects to small and large blood vessels and nerves. This may lead to sexual disorders such as erectile dysfunction in men and painful intercourse in women.
Although there is no cure for diabetes, managing your blood sugars may reduce your risk of complications. At the WellFort’s Diabetes Education Program a team consisting of a Registered Diabetes Nurse Educator and a Registered Dietitian will help you learn to better manage your diabetes. All of our services are free.
